We’re pleased to share a fresh update from the Kuska Project, a strategic joint venture between Ecotierra and COCLA in Peru’s La Convención Valley. With a total investment of 10.8 million USD over 10 years, Kuska is now entering a new phase combining high-impact fieldwork with the opening of its state-of-the-art dry mill.

Current harvest status
The lowland valleys of Echarate, Maranura, and Quillabamba have reached 90 percent completion, with peak harvest taking place between June and August. In the higher altitudes of Ocobamba, Inkawasi, Santa Teresa, and Vilcabamba, harvest is still ongoing and expected to conclude in October. Volumes have exceeded expectations in many highland areas, up 5 percent from early projections, with a smoother, more concentrated harvest cycle this year.
Infrastructure update
Kuska’s new dry mill, developed with Cimbria’s latest technology, will launch mid-September with a processing capacity of 8,500 kilograms of green coffee per hour. While parchment processing has not yet begun, five batches of cherry have already been processed in preparation. The plant is designed to ensure higher yields, minimal bean damage, and greater lot consistency.
Producer engagement and impact
Kuska is working with 12 cooperatives and 1,030 producer families. A new wave of more than 120 families is expected to join the program this season. Through bundled technical support and tailored financing, producers are improving post-harvest practices and investing in plot renewal. Strong prices are encouraging long-term productivity.

Distinctive cup profiles
Lots from elevations between 1,800 and 2,400 meters above sea level, including areas like Quellouno, Inkawasi, and Santa Teresa, are showing exceptional profiles with notes of dark chocolate, cacao, tropical fruits, citrus, floral elements, and nuts. These coffees are traceable through Kuska’s software-backed documentation and reception protocols.
Ecosystem-level results
Kuska’s work is already yielding measurable outcomes across agronomic, social, and environmental dimensions. On the climate front, carbon credit potential is under evaluation. Approximately 15,000 hectares of primary forest are being assessed for qualification, alongside 2,000 hectares targeted for reforestation in partnership with Cooperative Chanchamayo.
Looking ahead
This season marks the operational launch of Kuska’s value-added services in coffee, with cacao and honey integration on the horizon. The infrastructure backbone, advanced traceability, and quality control systems are all designed to meet the expectations of top-tier buyers and to build a more resilient, producer-centered supply chain in southern Peru.
