As the 2024-2025 coffee harvest in Honduras comes to a close, we want to provide you with a comprehensive overview of this year’s harvest, including key challenges, market trends, and what this means for your coffee supply.

Honduras Harvest Summary

The 2024-2025 harvest has faced significant challenges, primarily due to adverse weather conditions. An extended drought during the flowering season impacted fruit formation, leading to a 20% decrease in exports compared to the previous year. As of February 2025, Honduras has exported 1,291,734.4 46-kg bags, down from 1,599,791.71 bags in 2023. While the overall quality remains high in many regions, irregular fruit formation has affected some areas.

Key Challenges

  1. Climate Impacts: Prolonged droughts during flowering and heavy rains during the harvest season disrupted production.

  2. Labor Shortages: A lack of labor slowed harvesting and processing, further delaying exports.

  3. Rising Costs: Increased production costs were partially offset by higher global coffee prices, allowing producers to pay better wages.

Quality and Yield

Despite the challenges, the quality of this year’s harvest has improved in terms of cup profile and physical condition. However, yields per hectare have declined, with mid-to-high altitude regions contributing the majority of the harvest.

What This Means for Buyers

Most of the available coffee is now held by large exporters, with limited inventory expected beyond late April. To avoid potential shortages, we recommend securing your inventory immediately. Delays in procurement could result in limited availability as the harvest concludes.

Market Trends

  • Prices: Prices: Local coffee prices have surged by 69%, with the average export price reaching 319.20 per pound, up from 189.35 in previous years.

  • Logistics: Export delays due to port congestion have been a challenge, but efforts are underway to ensure timely deliveries.

Sustainability and Innovations

While certification costs remain high, demand for RFA and organic-certified coffee has increased. Innovations like vertical dryers and solar drying technologies have also gained traction, offering cost-effective solutions for producers.

Looking Ahead

This harvest has underscored the importance of strategic pricing and inventory management. As we prepare for future seasons, ElevaFinca remains committed to supporting producers and ensuring a stable supply of high-quality coffee for our buyers.
